About Us
Duncraig Nursery is set within a 3 acre walled garden, which was built in the 1800's and was originally the kitchen garden for Duncraig Castle.
The Nursery is located in the Highlands of Scotland, near to the picturesque and romantic village of Plockton, famous for the filming of the successful BBC drama series Hamish Macbeth.
The area is in a gulf stream climate, ideal for the palm trees (Cordylines) that are grown widely in Plockton. The Nursery however is a frost pocket in the winter, which ensures our plants are fully hardy.
The Nursery is owned by Joanna Fitzpatrick and Alastair Bates. Joanna was trained in horticulture at Aucincruive, West of Scotland Agricultural College and has worked now in the horticultural industry for 18 years.
We bought the Nursery just over a year ago and have quickly built up a good range of stock for you to choose from.
Most of our plants are grown from seed or cuttings, or are grown on from young plants that are bought in. This means our plants are acclimatised to this area.
Almost all of our ornamental and fruit trees and our roses are bought in bare root and are potted on at the nursery which helps keep the cost down for everyone.
We also buy in some of our shrubs and Rhododendrons from leading suppliers in the industry this enables us to have a great selection of top quality plants.
Plants are grown in top grade compost with added slow release fertiliser to feed them for up to a year. Also added to the compost mix is 'Suscon Green' - a pesticide which prevents vine weevil damage for up to 2 years. All of this ensures a great start and healthy plants for your garden.
We do not stock house plants as of yet. We hope to stock them in the future as our nursery and facilities grow.
We are a traditional nursery and we aim to provide you with a friendly, helpful service and reliable, hand picked varieties of plants that will be enjoyed in your garden for years to come.
